A volley of gunfire erupted in a Northeast Portland hotel parking lot on Christmas Eve, injuring at least one person.
Police arrived on the scene in the 9700 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday and found the lot littered with 9mm shell casings. Video surveillance footage from the lot showed a man “associated with a red sedan” shooting toward another sedan, police say. 9-1-1 callers reported seeing multiple vehicles scream out of the area after the shooting.
A man suffering from gunshot wounds walked into a local hospital later in the night, police report. A dark-colored sedan that had been hit with multiple gunshots was found in the hospital parking lot. The wounded man refused to cooperate with officers and no arrests have been made, police say.
This wasn’t the only shooting-related incident in Portland on Christmas Eve. A gunshot hit a TriMet bus Thursday afternoon, shattering one of the windows but causing no injuries. And in the evening a stolen vehicle struck a police officer, who fired two shots during the confrontation. The injured officer was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The number of shootings in Portland is up dramatically in 2020 compared to last year.
Crime Stoppers of Oregon offers a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest in an unsolved felony crime. Anonymous tips can be submitted at the Crime Stoppers website.
