Group overview: Hilton to grow footprint by 160000 rooms - TOPHOTELNEWS

Our researchers have pored over the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database and discovered that Hilton Worldwide will add nearly 800 hotels to its global portfolio.

In the coming years, Hilton Worldwide plans to open 776 hotels with 160,240 rooms, our data indicates. We find out more about these new hotels – and pick out a few properties worth keeping a close eye on.

Hilton’s hotel openings by year

In 2021, the Virginia-headquartered hospitality giant will add 264 hotels with 55,762 keys to its offering.

Another 224 hotels with 43,605 rooms are aiming to complete in 2022, meanwhile, and 116 projects with 23,528 keys have already been earmarked for 2023. Some 172 schemes with 37,345 rooms are slated to open in 2024 and beyond.

Of the 776 hotels that we’re currently tracking, the vast majority (525) are in the four-star sector, with the remainder (251) falling into the five-star category.

Hilton’s key growth regions

Hilton’s home base of North America tops our regional rankings, with 267 openings and 49,611 new keys pencilled in; the US also takes first place as the most dynamic national hotel market, with 230 projects and 43,111 rooms on the way.

APAC continues to be a high priority for the group as well – Hilton has 254 hotels with 60,391 rooms in the pipeline across this vast region. The relatively high room count in this part of the world, incidentally, points to the fact that APAC properties will on average be significantly larger than their counterparts in North America. China is the busiest national market in APAC, and Hilton’s second fastest growing market overall, with 181 hotels and 42,917 keys on the books at present.

Europe comes in third place on the region-by-region breakdown, with 121 upcoming openings and 21,233 additional keys. As for the most active European country, that would be the UK, which is lining up 37 new hotels and 7,714 rooms.

The Middle East follows a bit further behind with 67 ongoing projects and 17,226 keys. Hilton is also planning to grow its footprint in Africa (35 hotels and 7,222 rooms) and South America (32 properties and 4,567 keys).

Fastest growing brands in Hilton’s portfolio

Signature brand Hilton Hotels & Resorts will get 150 new properties with 44,266 keys in the coming years, making it the group’s fastest growing brand. Not far behind, however, is Hilton Garden Inn, which will open 136 additional hotels with 24,759 rooms, and Hampton by Hilton, by virtue of its 118 projects and 17,350 keys.

Elsewhere, DoubleTree by Hilton will add 85 locations with 18,661 keys to its portfolio, while Home2 Suites is planning 69 launches and 10,333 new rooms.

Noteworthy projects in Hilton’s pipeline

Hilton Bangkok Ratchada is currently undergoing renovation work, which is due to be completed by Q3 2022. The facelift spans every aspect of the 608-room hotel, not least its 2,584 sq m of meeting space, executive lounge, restaurants, cafĂ© and bar. Upgrading this property seems like a promising bet for Hilton as the hotel is located on one of Bangkok’s main thoroughfares in an up-and-coming area close to key cultural and commercial centres.

Over in Lagos, the 600-room Transcorp Hilton Ikoyi will open its doors in late 2023, occupying an iconic new structure for the city. The design by Perkins Eastman and Living Design is inspired by the form of two curling waves, symbolising Nigeria’s waterfront and maritime culture. This 20-storey landmark tower will offer stunning views of the Lagos Lagoon to the north, and Victoria Island and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.

Finally, when it opens in Q3 2023, the 600-room Hilton Melbourne Square will be part of a mixed-use development surrounded by plenty of parkland, and close to Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and Melbourne Arts Centre. The forthcoming hotel is also just a short walk across the river to the Docklands precinct, Southern Cross station and the city’s central business and shopping districts. Onsite, guests will find an executive lounge, four F&B outlets, a fitness centre, an indoor pool, and extensive meeting and event spaces totalling over 2,800 sq m.
