After years of development, the Hyatt Place in Downtown Evansville is officially open for business. City leaders say the impact it will make on the economy will be great.
The project for the 139 room hotel began in 2018. Wednesday, the hotel held the official ribbon cutting ceremony, marking its completion.
It is located on SE 2nd Street in the heart of the action. Just a few blocks away from the Ford Center, the riverfront, and Main Street, the hotel expects to bring a lot of new faces to Evansville.
Downtown Evansville President Josh Armstrong told 44News, “Visitors are very important to Downtown Evansville. They fill our restaurants beyond what our residents already do. So, having this new property, 139 rooms, that’s a lot of people getting burgers, beer, coffee, buying greeting cards, buying t-shirts, all those things that visitors do. It’s exciting for Downtown Evansville.”
The hotel is only the latest project in the development of the city. City leaders say downtown is rapidly growing.
“[The hotel is] following up some real successes with AR Lofts and the Posthouse. We’re really changing into being a residential neighborhood. Even during the pandemic 170+ new households moved into the downtown zip code,” says Armstrong.
City leaders say we can expect a few more eateries and a brand new retailer before the new year.
