ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) -Talk about being bear aware. A bear decided to take a stroll through the Hotel Alyeska. Eric Runyan says he was finishing his work when he saw the bear Tuesday night.
Visitors come to Alaska to see the great outdoors and the wildlife that lives there.
They don’t expect to encounter that wildlife inside their hotel.
“I was sitting by the back fire-pit (by the pond) with 2 couples from Brooklyn NY when we saw this bear walking towards us. It kind of moseyed behind the building and I thought that was the last we’d see of it.”
Runyan then says just two minutes later he saw it through the glass doors, walking around inside the hotel.
“That’s when I started filming and walked inside to warn anyone that might be around. When I got to the bottom of the stairs I saw the bear pacing around the lobby, just inside the sliding doors. I waved my arms and yelled at it a bit, trying to scare it off. Luckily, the doors opened automatically and he walked out.”
Runyan says it was a pretty crazy thing to see on a Tuesday evening, but said the folks from New York couldn’t believe their eyes. And had a great true Alaskan story to tell their friends when they get home.
A close encounter that left both bear and human unharmed.
