FLINT, MI — The doors to a new hotel in downtown Flint, a project touted as helping to invigorate the area and provide a significant boost to downtown businesses, opened to customers on Monday, Nov. 2.
MLive and The Flint Journal took a video tour through the new Hilton Garden Inn, 110 W. Kearsley St., for a look inside the facility.
The hotel is taking reservations for Monday and beyond. The $37.9 million,11-story hotel also features Sauce Italian American Kitchen and Bar and The Federal Coffee House, a restaurant and café attached to the Hilton, which is also open to the public Monday.
Simmer Rooftop Lounge, which is located on the top of a five-story wing of the Hilton Garden Inn, is scheduled to open in the spring of 2021.
Prices for rooms range from $95 to $151. Some rooms such as the one with two queen beds offer in-room drinks and snacks. Rooms can also be upgraded for package deals that can include breakfast, a $25 daily credit to use at any on-property dining outlet or in-room sparkling wine or cider and full breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Valet parking is provided around the clock for $15 per day. Self-parking is also available at the nearby Rutherford Garage.
The hotel transforms the former 1920s-era Genesee County Savings Bank building, which also once housed the Flint Office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and a real estate firm. Plans to redevelop the building began in 2017.
City and project leaders say the hotel will provide a significant boost for downtown businesses.
Tim Herman, president of Uptown Reinvestment Corp., the project’s developer has said the development adds 60 jobs and brings needed accommodations to downtown.
The 101-room hotel has five meeting rooms, and 4,600 square feet of conference space. Amenities and services include free WiFi, non-smoking rooms, fitness center, and a business center.
