After putting the fire out, investigators say they discovered people had been squatting at the empty hotel, to the extent where they say a Christmas tree had been set up, among other arrangements.
The fire damaged a portion of the roof, and a firefighter suffered minor injuries but is expected to be okay.
Investigators did not say if they found any of the squatters, and a cause has not been announced.
A portion of West Henrietta Road was shut down as crews battled the flames.
