FORT MYERS, Fla. — A new Marriott hotel is set to open next year in downtown Fort Myers.
The new hotel will have more than 100 rooms, a restaurant and rooftop bar.
Mayor Kevin Anderson says it will bring in crowds of visitors and new jobs to the area.
“Any time there’s talk about development, especially development that includes job creation,” he said, “that’s a good thing.”
The construction is set to start this year and be completed next fall.
“There’s other problems that we could think about solving here in Fort Myers,” local Alanna Dukas said, “like homeless people here might need help.”
Some are also concerned about the traffic during construction which could start later this year.
“It just seems like there should be a little more planning or thought,” Dukas continued, “especially right here in central downtown.”
Anderson says there are other hotels planned for the downtown area. He hopes they continue to bring in new opportunities for growth.
