While an official opening date is still in the works, soon visitors will be able to stay right in the heart of downtown Poulsbo at Hotel Scandi.

It is located on the top floor of the old Olympic Hotel next to Sogno Di Vino on Front Street in Poulsbo.

The Olympic Hotel was built in 1892 and comprised both the upper and lower portions of the building, which is now home to several businesses. The hotel burned down in 1914 but was reconstructed and operated as a hotel until the mid-1950s, before portions of the building were sold .

“The first floor has been taken up by retail spaces now, but the second floor has been renovated into a VRBO style nine-unit hotel that we anticipate opening in the next month or so,” said Paula Martin, property manager for Hotel Scandi.

Each unit shares one of four full bathrooms, making it more of a hostel-style place.

“The idea is that people would come and take advantage of everything that downtown Poulsbo has to offer. Eat locally, spend some money in coffee shops and Sluys of course, Sogno Di Vino… all of the downtown restaurants and retail establishments in general. Just find out what Kitsap Peninsula has to offer in terms of recreation,” Martin said.

Hotel Scandi still has many of its original features, such as its brick floors and wood paneling, but a local interior design company, Abnormals Anonymous, has chipped in with providing new wallpaper, light fixtures and other decors that blend Scandanavian, Modern and Classic styles together that are also ecologically friendly.

Most of the units are designed to fit two people, while others could fit four or five.

“We’ve had one inquiry so far about a wedding party stay and take over the hotel, but we’ll see if we will be open in time for their wedding,” Martin said.

Due to the high demand of supply chains as the world begins to reopen following the COVID-19 pandemic, many items the hotel still needs have not arrived, delaying its opening.

One of many unique features of the hotel will be the absence of TVs. Instead, the hotel will be opting for incredibly fast wifi, which will allow guests to stream/work/game on their own devices.

“It should be a neat, cozy place to stay for a couple of days,” Martin said.
