A 6-year-old boy died Friday evening after he drowned at a Wildwood, NJ hotel, according to reporting from on our sister site, NJ.com.
The drowning occurred at Beachside Resort, according to the report. The child was from Philadelphia.
In a joint release from the Wildwood Police and Fire Department, officials said police were called at 6:30 p.m. Friday for a report of a possible drowning with CPR in progress.
The boy was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center where, despite life-saving efforts of both first responders and medical staff, he was pronounced dead.
“We are absolutely devastated at this tragic and senseless loss of a life so young,” Wildwood Police Chief Robert N. Regalbuto and Wildwood Fire Chief Ernie Troiano III said in the release. “We strongly encourage everyone whenever you’re swimming, swim near a lifeguard, especially when on our beaches.”
Law enforcement said the drowning remains under investigation Saturday.
Both the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division and the Cape May County Prosecutors Major Crimes Unit are investigating, according to the report.
