Community leaders join hotel staff to commemorate preliminary success of operations
Despite having been open for many months, the mayor of Grand Junction, the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce and CMU staff joined hotel employees to officially dedicate Hotel Maverick and Devil’s Kitchen as a permanent and central fixture on the university campus. The event was planned and hosted by CMU partners and hotel operator Charlestowne Hotels.
“This is one of my favorite properties to visit,” said Charlestowne Director of Operations Gareth Brown. “The location and uniqueness of the property means Hotel Maverick has been doing amazingly well even though we opened during challenging times for the worlds’ hospitality businesses. Hotel Maverick is a special property and an amazing amenity for western Colorado visitors.”
CMU trustees gathered for the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony and onlookers applauded City Councilmember Duke Wortmann, who in addition to being a longtime CMU supporter, was selected to serve as Mayor of the City of Grand Junction in May 2020.
“Hotel Maverick has been off to the races for some time now, but having the official ribbon cutting is something that is symbolically important because it is such an important part of the student experience at CMU,” said Wortmann. “It's also a great place for the community to interface with students while receiving a level of hospitality and service that is second to none in the Grand Valley."
Hotel Maverick is the premiere boutique hotel in the Grand Valley and is one of the few university teaching hotels in Colorado.
In addition to visiting the hotel, CMU trustees also toured the CMU Center for Reflection. The new facility includes a sanctuary that is being constructed next to Hotel Maverick.
