HILTON, N.Y. — St. George’s Episcopal Church and its grilled apple sausage has been a staple at the Hilton Apple Festival for 30 years. The festival may be canceled this year due to COVID-19 concerns, but not the sausage.

Festivalgoers who usually line up for St. George’s apple sausage hot off the grill can still enjoy it at home. Pastor Greg Kramer and volunteers are selling 1 pound vacuum-sealed, freshly made, then frozen apple sausage for $11 a pack.
"It is an absolutely delicious sausage," said Pastor Greg Kremer. "We’ve had people drop by excited that we are selling it because they heard the festival is closed and that one of their favorite things about the Apple Fest was our sausage."
Nearly everyone who goes to the Apple Fest recognizes George Lake. He's the one working the grill wearing the Goofy hat and Disney apron. He will miss seeing all those smiling, hungry faces.
"One woman got off the bus, came down and got the sausage and got right back on the bus and went home," said Lake. "She came just for the sausage."
The first batch of apple sausage sold out and the second batch is nearly sold out. Pastor Kremer has a third order on the way. Apple sausage sale proceeds support service to the local community including the Hilton Parma Food Shelf, Cadet Cupboard, the garden at the church, youth ministry and homeless ministry.
"So I think for the Hilton community, a lot of people who go to the Apple Fest, they really feel that this is what is starting their fall, our sausage gets to be a part of it. It is his perfect blend of savory and sweet," said Rebecca Wegman.
