When you first gaze into the new Hotel Lucy, you're captivated by its eclectic style and hypnotic splash of color. This boutique hotel is tucked away in the North Texas town of Granbury and made its grand debut over Labor Day weekend.

The mastermind behind this gem is Hotel Lucy's owner, Vicki Nivens. It's been her dream for years to open a boutique hotel in Granbury.

"Oh goodness. I did have that in that back of my mind," Nivens said. "My daughter said, 'Mom ,that would make a great boutique hotel.' So we bought it, and I bought a lot of properties around it. I've been working on it for two years."

Formerly a bed and breakfast, the new sophisticated boutique hotel offers 12 well-appointed suites with whimsical decor and distinct themes for each room. Nivens gave the rooms the finishing touches that perfectly reflected her dynamic personality.

"I want people to have and come have an experience," Nivens said.  "I added things that are really simple, but mean a lot. I just want people to come there and experience the fun and funkiness of it."

Tucked away on the road into town, the hotel rests right across the street from Lake Granbury City Beach Park and a few blocks away from the Granbury town square.

"There are a lot of wineries, nice restaurants here in Granbury," Nivens said. "It's a unique destination for a weekend getaway."

Nivens brings her eclectic sense of style to each suite.

"I don't really know what my style is. I like eclectic, funky," Nivens said. "I just think you can take a plain room and add something. And it turns the whole room around.  It's whatever I see and I think, 'Oh, this might look cool somewhere!'"

One of her favorite rooms is the "Hey Sugar" room.

"I love the 'Hey Sugar' room," Nivens said. "The name 'Hey Sugar' was from my husband.  So that's why it's called Hey Sugar. I just wanted to glam that room up. I figured that it needed to have a 'wow' factor about this."

The other sentimental favorite is the "Vera Parker" room. It was named after a woman who owned a fruit stand on the property where the hotel stands.

"Growing up, we would always stop at Vera Parker's where the fruit stand was," Nivens said. "Now I have a room called Vera Parker."

Nivens said that creating Hotel Lucy was a true labor of love.

"It's all been worth it. It's still homey," Nivens said. "You can feel comfortable there. I'm hoping to do small weddings and small events. We'll add to our list."

Service is the defining thing that sets Hotel Lucy apart, according to Nivens.

"For guests, from 6-7, we have complimentary happy hour. We'll offer a cabana service for the pool. Just the service will make you feel like the queen of your day," Nivens said.
