Waldorf Astoria and Conrad hotels are being lined up for two soaring skyscrapers, reflecting Hilton Worldwide’s confidence that it’ll “emerge from this pandemic stronger than before”.
Luxury travellers will soon have exciting new accommodation options to choose from in Japan and China.
A major boost for Osaka and Chongqing
In a welcome boost for APAC’s hospitality sector amid the ongoing disruption caused by Covid19, Hilton Worldwide has signed deals to launch Waldorf Astoria Osaka and Conrad Chongqing. Management agreements have been secured with Orix Real Estate Corporation for the former and Chongqing Jiafa Industrial Co for the latter.
Relatively few details about either project have been confirmed so far. However, images released by Hilton show that Waldorf Astoria Osaka will occupy a modern skyscraper and feature an expansive lounge area with high ceilings and impressive views across the Japanese city, while Conrad Chongqing will also sit within a towering glazed building and boast a circular outdoor rooftop pool with outstanding vistas of the river and the Chinese megacity’s skyline.
According to the TOPHOTELPROJECTs construction database, Osaka’s proposed new hotel will have 250 rooms and open in 2025, while the under-construction Chongqing scheme will feature 200 keys and launch in Q4 2022.
Alan Watts, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton, said: “For more than a century, Hilton has thrived in key destinations all over the world, even through some of the most challenging periods in history. The strong growth momentum in Asia demonstrates the resilience of Hilton’s luxury brands amidst a dynamic operating landscape as a result of the Covid19 pandemic.
“It also signals great confidence from the owner and investment communities in the strength of our luxury brands. We are confident that together with our partners, Hilton will emerge from this pandemic stronger than before as we continue to deliver the light and warmth of hospitality to our guests and capture growth opportunities across key destinations for our owners.”
