A planned Tru by Hilton Hotel has begun to take shape at the corner of New Hope Road and Remount Road.
Gastonia native Ahswin Shah believes his new hotel venture will help attract more businesses and families to Gastonia.
Shah started his career in the hospitality industry more than 30 years ago. He owns Lakshmi Hotels Inc., in addition to operating as a Hilton Hotel franchisee.
"There are many benefits to the hotel, like being so close to Charlotte," said Shah. "This will be a really good thing."
Construction for the hotel continues to take place.
Tru by Hilton represents one of the Hilton Hotels' many brands, which typically feature modern aesthetics, games in the lobby area and a snack and beverage market open 24/7.
Rock Hill-based construction company J.M. Cope Construction has the role of general contractors for the project.
The general contractor superintendent Robin Sandidge plans to meet the Hilton's expectations for developing a "top-notch" building that invites the community to relax.
"I think the vibrant blues and yellows of the building will bring life to the area," Sandidge said of the building's future exterior design.
The four-story hotel will include 99 rooms, including 69 rooms with double queen-sized beds and 30 rooms with one king-sized bed.
Rooms will cost between $120 to $125 per night, Shah says.
The rooms have about 230 to 270 square feet and will also have rolling desks, large TVs and spacious bathrooms.
Shah hopes pets will be allowed to stay with guests, but the decision has yet to be determined by the franchise.
Guests can also enjoy indoor amenities like the indoor pool located on the first floor, a 24-hour market for snacks and meals and conference rooms.
Shah also hopes to incorporate local artists into the design for the indoor mural wall in the first-floor lobby area.
"We want people to feel comfortable just hanging out here when they travel to Gastonia," said Sandidge.
The hotel will have a main entrance on New Hope Road and a one-way exit on Remount Road.
There will also be a parking lot for guests wrapping around the front and right side of the building that includes 99 parking spots.
"I think the hotel will bring diversity to the neighborhood," said Sandidge. "The hotel will have a big, bright sign in the front and it will look different from all the places around here."
Guests will also have proximity to the Eastridge Mall and many food options including a Bojangles, KFC, Texas Roadhouse, Waffle House and more. Several other hotel brands line Remount Road.
Shah oversees many hotels within the Hilton Hotel franchise throughout North and South Carolina.
He expects the project to be completed by late summer of 2022.
