Hilton Garden Inn Will Remain Open, Layoffs Temporary: UPDATE - Milford, CT Patch

MILFORD, CT — A Hilton Garden Inn company official contacted Milford Patch and said the hotel will remain open and isn't closing. In a filing with the state Department of Labor, hotel officials said that 49 employees are being laid off. But the hotel is staying open.

"We are actually NOT closing; we are temporarily cutting back staff due to the current business climate. And hopeful, this will be resolved soon. The hotel is open and looking forward to welcoming our guests," Kellie McCrory told Patch.

MILFORD, CT — Citing the effects of the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, the owners of the Hilton Garden Inn at 291 Old Gate Lane are laying off 49 employees, officials said in a letter to the state Department of Labor.

"As a result of the unforeseeable, dramatic downtown in business and occupancy caused by the coronavirus natural disaster, we are writing to inform you that there will be a mass layoff at the Hilton Garden Inn Milford facility located at 291 Old Gate Lane ... on March 23, 2020. This mass layoff is expected to be permanent. The expected date of the first separation will be March 23, 2020."

"All 49 affected employees have been notified of their separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent. The layoffs will continue through the end of the week," the letter states.
