The Ambassador Hotel, an anchor business for Milwaukee's near west side, is reopening Thursday after closing in mid-March because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hotel, 2308 W. Wisconsin Ave., will include a focus on its outdoor patio, which features a fire pit and socially distanced tables, according to a Wednesday statement.
The Ambassador’s Gin Ricky Restaurant & Lounge has a new menu. And that includes a to-go menu, with drive-up order pickup available.
As with other hotels, the Ambassador's lobby furniture, bar, restaurant tables and physical layouts will be arranged to ensure social distancing.
Elevators will be limited to only related party for each trip. Common areas, as well as guest rooms, will undergo deep cleanings.
Other steps include suspension of daily housekeeping services.
The Ambassador becomes the latest Milwaukee hotel to reopen amid the pandemic, which has hit higher end hotels with restaurants particularly hard.
Other local hotels that have reopened since June include Potawatomi Hotel & Casino as well as Marcus Corp.'s Pfister Hotel, Saint Kate — The Arts Hotel and Milwaukee Hilton City Center.
The hotel industry has faced massive revenue and job losses because of a huge cut in business and leisure travel tied to the coronavirus pandemic.
In Milwaukee, the canceled events include the Democratic National Convention, which will meet in a virtual format next week.
