What's going there: Salisbury 7-Eleven, Hilton hotel in Fruitland, Payless makes comeback - Delmarva Daily Times

Businesses both big and small, from a new Hilton hotel in Fruitland to a bridal retail store expansion in Salisbury, are livening up local economies across the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Check out those summertime business updates and more:

Fruitland

Home2 Suites by Hilton

301 Prosperity Lane

Fruitland is getting a new hotel: An 81-room Home2 Suites by HIlton will be built near Denny's and across from Texas Roadhouse. Developers said the site spans three parcels and would have the potential for future expansion.

Planning commissioners unanimously approved in June the conceptual site plan, with the suggestion that the State Highway Administration be contacted to consider adjusting the turn lane near East Cedar Lane for better traffic flow.

Salisbury

7-Eleven

Corner of Westwood Road and Naylor Mill Road

A new 7-Eleven location is coming to Salisbury, just off Route 50 and on the corner of Westwood and Naylor Mill roads.

The plan includes a 4,950-square-foot convenience store, eight gas station islands totaling 4,295 square feet and four diesel pumps totaling 1,800 square feet.

Salisbury-Wicomico Planning and Zoning commissioners unanimously approved in June a final comprehensive development plan for the convenience store and gas station.

Core Acquisition, LLC, the Chicago-based land development group behind the project, is also building a 7-Eleven convenience store and car wash in Berlin.

Downtown Bridal

Downtown Bridal won't be in downtown Salisbury soon. The bridal and prom wear boutique is moving to the Gateway Crossing Shopping Center, where K-Mart was previously located.

Downtown Bridal will double its current storefront with the construction of an 11,000-square-foot unit. The proposed bridal retail store includes a new entry and two store fronts.

Salisbury-Wicomico Planning and Zoning commissioners unanimously approved in June a comprehensive development plan for the store.

Downtown Bridal is currently having a moving sale through August, with select dresses priced 50% off and Sample Salon bridal gowns starting as low as $99.

Crisfield

The Muddy Boot

523 West Main St.

The Muddy Boot, a new boutique shop selling handcrafted, unique and eclectic gifts, recently opened in downtown Crisfield.

Business partners and sisters Dorothy Taylor and Jen Welch started selling their crocheted crafts and jams, soaps, vegetable plants, fresh farm eggs, hen saddles and many other handmade and home-grown items through their business, Two Bitty's and Their Chickens.

Their new boutique shop specializes in Eastern Shore artists and crafters, including Chelsea Taylor's handcrafted wreaths, Crystal Taylor's Seas The Day Soap Company and other custom-made items.

"New shipments are arriving daily. We hope to see you all soon," the sisters announced in a news release. "And remember the secret to a successful small town is community support."

You can find The Muddy Boot in the Black Eye Susan apartments and storefronts.

National

Payless has plans for hundreds of locations

At a time when major retailers across the U.S. are permanently closing hundreds of their stores, Payless is making a comeback, with plans to open between 300 to 500 free-standing stores nationally over the next five years.

Payless has a new website and a new name, having dropped "ShoeSource," according to a company statement. The retailer is opening its first prototype store in Miami, where its new headquarters is located.

The footwear retailer emerged from bankruptcy for the second time in January 2020, after shuttering its remaining U.S. stores in 2019.

The comeback was first announced in January, and its new website is now live at Payless.com.
