106-room Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel opens in downtown Kalamazoo - MLive.com

KALAMAZOO, MI-- Guests visiting Kalamazoo or staying for an extended stay have another lodging option in the downtown area. Home2 Suites by Hilton Kalamazoo Downtown, 303 North Rose Street, opens the door to guests starting on Friday, May 28.

Home2 Suites is adjoined to the new 114-room Hilton Garden Inn located in the Historic Masonic Temple Building, also known as the Rose Street Market Building. The Hilton Garden Inn opened at half capacity to guests in November and by April opened at full capacity.

Local developer, PlazaCorp, the city of Kalamazoo and Fishers, Indiana-based hotel developer Dora Hotel Co. partnered on the project.

The eight-story Home2 Suites feature 106 suites equipped with sleeper sofas and kitchens that include full-size refrigerators and dishwashers. The Home2 Suites by Hilton will also feature offers complimentary breakfast daily, complimentary WiFi and is pet friendly, a news release from Hilton states.

When guests arrive, they are greeted by a vibrant modern-themed lobby with space to socialize, work or relax. In partnership with Heritage Guitars — a local guitar-maker formed by former employees of the iconic Gibson Guitars factory in Kalamazoo — the Hilton property’s artwork features guitars and scenes from the factory.

The two Hilton properties will share common areas such as the Garden Grille restaurant, bar, indoor saline pool, fitness center, guest laundry and outdoor courtyard with fire pit and two grills. Guests from each hotel can also order room service from the Garden Grille. Both properties also have access to the attached covered parking garage adjacent to the hotels, the release states.

The side-by-side hotels also include nine commercial spaces for lease, none of which are currently occupied.

Local developer PlazaCorp, the city of Kalamazoo and Indiana-based hotel developer Dora Hotel Co. partnered on the restoration at the property.

“This project has been several years in the making and we could not be happier with the finished product,” said Dora Hotel Co. Principal Tim Dora. “We couldn’t have done it without the support of the Kalamazoo community. We are ready for guests to fully enjoy both hotels for the individuality they bring to downtown Kalamazoo.”

Dora Hotel Co. is also partnered with PlazaCorp and Hard Rock International in separate plans to develop a hotel at the historic Gibson guitar and mandolin manufacturing site, 225 Parsons St., the founding location of Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co. in 1917.
