The American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) has recommended hotels ease masking restrictions in line with updated guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

AHLA President Chip Rogers said in statement on Monday that it is recommending the hotel industry allow fully vaccinated guests to do away with face coverings but not to require proof of vaccinations.

Rogers said unvaccinated guests should still wear masks and practice social distancing at all times in public settings. Hotel employees will also be required to continue wearing masks indoors but that vaccinated employees working outside would not need to wear a mask, with the caveat that all hotels follow rules set by their local jurisdictions.

“The COVID-19 vaccine provides our nation and our industry hope for recovery after a devastating year. But, we expect further guidance from the CDC and public health experts to support our efforts to ensure the safety of our workforce, guests and the general public," Rogers said.

“In this spirit, as an industry we support innovative solutions to encourage our workforce and guests to get vaccinated, and call on all Americans to be vaccinated before removing face-coverings.”
