$25 million Hilton-branded hotel coming to San Bernardino in 2021 - San Bernardino County Sun

The Irvine-based developer behind a $25 million Home2 Suites by Hilton bound for San Bernardino’s entertainment corridor expects the four-story, 113-room hotel to generate more than $750,000 a year in tax revenue.

City planning commissioners unanimously approved the project last month.

Greens Group, the developer of several sleek new hotels in downtown Riverside and elsewhere in the region, plans to build the limited-service hotel near the California Highway Patrol office on East Brier Drive in the Hospitality Lane commercial corridor.

The Home2 Suites by Hilton will be the developer’s first hotel in San Bernardino.

Construction at the vacant site could begin as early as this summer and conclude in a year.

When discussing the project in the fall, Atman Kadakia, managing principal at Greens, said the group liked that the 1.9-acre site was near restaurants, freeways and major demand drivers such as Loma Linda Medical Center and downtown San Bernardino.

“We’re excited about the market, about the opportunity,” he said. “We believe it’s a great fit and will be an asset for the city of San Bernardino.”

The Home2 Suites will have a swimming pool, fitness center, formal lobby seating area, breakfast serving station and seating area and other amenities.

At 113 rooms, capacity will narrowly trail the nearby Hilton Garden Inn (115 rooms) and Hampton Inn (114).

Based on a study of room occupancy at seven hotels in the San Bernardino-Loma Linda area, Greens anticipates an 85% occupancy rate, which equates to 96 rooms occupied per night.

Judi Penman, San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce president, has said hotels in town accommodate out-of-town business people and weekenders in town for Little League tournaments or events at the National Orange Show.

The fiscal 2019-20 budget projects transient occupancy taxes to generate $4.9 million in revenue.

Hospitality Lane itself has 10 hotels and motels, as well as a number of restaurants.

In August 2018, city planning commissioners approved the construction of a Tru by Hilton hotel in place of the vacant Crabby Bob’s Seafood Grill.

Development there still is in its infancy.
