STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Hilton Garden Inn, Bloomfield, was transformed into "New York, New York," for Bini Bash 2020 Saturday night. The event was attended by close to 500 guests, benefiting the Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund.
Guests were treated to over-the-top decor by Partners in Sound Productions and ProShow that included a walk through in a NYC subway car, the Brooklyn Bridge, a photo op with Lady Liberty, and 200 LCD screens stitched together to display city scenes.
And the cocktail hour? The mood was electric as guests enjoyed cocktails and the vocal stylings of Staten Island crooner Charlie Romo.
And the food was not to be outdone.
In addition to the standard, mouth-watering appetizers, food stations included iconic NYC fare: Nathan's Hot Dogs, Katz's Deli, and Chinatown's Wo Hop, before delighting in a sit-down dinner between dances by Paris NY.
Founder and president of the Carl V. Bini Fund, Massimo DiDonna, and his wife, Desiree, welcomed the guests as they poured into the HIlton. The couple personally greeted and thanked them, before addressing the crowd.
"Our mission is our life-long belief in helping others and we pride ourself as an organization made up of Staten Islanders, helping Staten Islanders," said DiDonna.
"When tragedy strikes, whether it affects thousands, like the opioid epidemic affecting our borough, or just a few, like the recent fires on Rensselaer Avenue last week, we immediately react and offer assistance," he added.
The Bini Fund organized, raised and distributed to the affected families more than $40,000 within seven days, with the help of Councilman Joe Borelli (R-South Shore), Joyce's Tavern, and Playing Sports Bar.
DiDonna noted that the legacy of firefighter Carl V. Bini, his late father-in-law, who made the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11, 2001, is Staten Island's responsibility to protect and pass on, "So that our community never forgets the impact one individual can have on the masses."
