Man dies after he accidentally shoots himself at Omni Dallas Hotel, police say - The Dallas Morning News

A man was found dead at a downtown Dallas hotel late Saturday after he accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun, a witness told police.

Dallas police said they were dispatched about 11:35 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the Omni Dallas Hotel at 555 South Lamar Street, not far from Interstate 35E and South Griffin Street, where the man was found with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

The man has not been publicly identified and police did not release any other details. The investigation remains active.

The shooting happened three days after a new state law went into effect that allows people to carry firearms to and from their hotel room. The law was one of more than 650 that took effect in Texas on Wednesday.
