Mike Hilton has been an MVP-level addition for the Cincinnati Bengals defense.

One of the league’s most underrated slot corners isn’t just flying all over the field to clean up and applying good pressure on blitzes.

He’s also ripping off motivational speeches to the locker room, including one that helped key Sunday’s upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bengals wideout Tyler Boyd told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com that Hilton got up in front of the team Saturday night and went deep on a speech:

“He was just saying how basically, how he didn’t feel valued by them. He was their leading turnover guy a year ago, and for them not to invest in a guy like him is kind of insulting because you know how good you are. You feel like you mean a lot to the team and organization and they just turn around and stab you in the back. I mean, I don’t know what the situation was and he didn’t say that in his exact words, but we understood the message that was pretty much how it is.”

The Steelers did give the former undrafted player a chance and he made the most of it over the last few seasons. But when it came time to open up the checkbook, a cap-tight Pittsburgh opted to spend elsewhere, plus save cash for an inevitable T.J. Watt extension.

Hilton turned that into a chip on his shoulder, brought over the loaf chart and changed the complexion of the defense — all before helping his new team take down the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
