A water main break flooded basement of a Pittsburgh hotel Wednesday morning.

The break was at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Barkers Way, a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson said. The subbasement of the Renaissance Hotel Pittsburgh on Sixth Street was taking on water.

There was 6 to 8 feet of water in the subbasement, Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV reported.

Firefighters were pumping out the basement while crews with the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority were trying to find the break and shut the water off early this morning.

An authority representative could not immediately be reached for comment. A hotel representative could also not immediately be reached for comment.

Hotel guests were not being evacuated and, aside from low water pressure, were not affected, WPXI reported.

Water was coming through the walls of the neighboring Byham Theater, but its basement had not flooded, the station reported.
