As many as 753 hotel openings and 117,822 new rooms are planned for Europe this year, the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows, including stellar schemes from Fairmont, Edition and Pan Pacific.
A landmark hotel in London and a design-led property in Iceland are among the most exciting developments scheduled to make their debut across Europe in 2021. Read on to find out more about five of the continent’s top arrivals.
Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva
Late 2021 will mark the opening of Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva following its transformation from Kempinski Grand Hotel Geneva. The renovation and rebrand of this lakeside property involves the redesign of its interiors by award-winning French architect Jean Nouvel, including updating the Lake Geneva-facing facade to ensure it blends seamlessly in with the environment while achieving optimum energy efficiency.
On reopening as part of the Fairmont brand, the five-star hotel will be home to 412 guest rooms, including 33 suites and 14 apartments. This luxurious accommodation will be complemented by facilities including three restaurants, a lounge and bar with lake views, Spa Valmont, a fitness centre and an indoor swimming pool, as well as upscale boutiques and abundant meeting and event space.
Ikos Andalusia – Costa del Sol Princess Resort
Chic Mediterranean style defines this luxurious resort on Spain’s Costa del Sol. Previously the Costa del Sol Princess Resort, this retreat is undergoing a redevelopment courtesy of new owner Oaktree Capital Management to become a stylish addition to the Ikos Resorts portfolio. The property lies on the beachfront of Estepona, close to Marbella and a 60-minute drive from Malaga Airport.
Altogether, the resort comprises 411 guest rooms and suites featuring panoramic windows, balconies, gardens and, in some cases, private pools. With more than 21 acres of landscaped gardens and leisure facilities, the property will boast eight restaurants including several venues from Michelin-starred chefs, The Ikos Spa by Anne Semonin Paris, indoor and outdoor heated pools, an exclusive beach area and extensive sports facilities.
Edition Hotel Reykjavik
Marriott International and Ian Schrager are soon to debut the Edition Hotels brand’s first property in Iceland, Edition Hotel Reykjavik. Together with owner and developer Carpenter & Company, architects T.ark and Ian Schrager Company, and interior design firm Roman & Williams, they’ve created a design-led newbuild on the harbourfront of downtown Reykjavik adjacent to Harpa, the city’s concert and conference hall.
Opening in mid-2021, the new luxury Edition hotel will comprise over 250 guest rooms. These will be joined by a nightlife space and ballroom, as well as a culinary offering including a signature restaurant, a destination bar and a cafe, which are all aimed at both hotel guests and locals.
Pan Pacific London
Together with owner UOL Group and developer and management company Stanhope, Pan Pacific Hotels Group is set to launch its first Pan Pacific-branded hotel in London. The newbuild is among the capital’s most highly anticipated openings, with its striking 43-storey tower adding to this part of the city’s skyline. PLP Architecture, MSMR Architects and Yabu Pushelberg are behind the ambitious new property’s design.
On opening in early 2021, this tower will house 237 luxury guest rooms and suites, along with five-star wellness facilities including spa treatment rooms, a fitness centre and infinity pool, a world-class culinary offering, event space including a 380-seat double-height ballroom and 160 private residences. Reflecting the hotel group’s Asian roots, restaurants here will include Straits Kitchen, offering Singapore-style dining; and Ginger Lily Bar, taking inspiration from Singaporean culture.
Radisson Blu Resort Ostroda Mazury Lakes, Poland
In partnership with developer Europlan, Radisson Hotel Group is preparing to launch Radisson Blu Resort Ostroda Mazury Lakes in the first quarter of 2021. Situated within Mazury Lakes, a district known as the ‘land of a thousand lakes’, this resort will boast its own marina and water park; Polish firm clubdesign.pl is behind the scheme’s architecture and interior design.
This luxury property will be home to 240 guest rooms and suites, along with a lobby bar and an all-day dining restaurant, and 2,600 sq m of meeting and event space – including a ballroom, four function rooms and seven meeting rooms. And the accompanying water park will come complete with its own indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sauna and fitness centre.
