OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Beach Plaza Hotel on the Ocean City boardwalk has permanently shut its doors.

The family, who also owns Phillips Crab House, has owned the hotel for almost 50 years. A spokesperson says the estate of the founders, Brice and Shirley Phillips, needed to be closed. So the family had to make the difficult decision about how to move forward with the various estate assets, ultimately deciding to enter into a contract to sell the entire hotel property.

Steve Phillips, the son of the founders, says in a statement, “Through our nearly 50 years operating on the Boardwalk, we’ve loved getting to know all our guests who stayed with us year after year. The Beach Plaza Hotel was a wonderful home base for thousands of beach vacations, weekend getaways, wedding and anniversary celebrations and reunions, and we’re so grateful to have been a part of these unforgettable memories in Ocean City.”

The spokesperson says since opening in 1973, the hotel had employed hundreds of staff. Existing hotel reservations for 2021 have been cancelled and refunds are being issued now. If you have any questions, you can reach out to Beach Plaza Hotel at info@beachplazaoc.com.
