KALAMAZOO, MI — After opening at half capacity on Nov. 30, The Hilton Garden Inn announced Tuesday, April 13 that the more than 100 hotel rooms at its downtown Kalamazoo location are now all available for guests.
Located at 303 N. Rose St. in the historic Masonic temple building, the new hotel features 114 rooms, spanning six stories.

The adjoining eight-story Home2 Suites by Hilton Kalamazoo Downtown is scheduled to open in May and will feature 106 suites equipped with sleeper sofas and kitchens that include full-size refrigerators and dishwashers. The Home2 Suites by Hilton will also be pet friendly, a news release from Hilton states.
The two Hilton properties will share common areas such as the Garden Grille restaurant, bar, indoor saline pool, fitness center, guest laundry and outdoor courtyard with fire pit. Both properties also have access to the attached covered parking garage adjacent to the hotels, the release states.

In partnership with Heritage Guitars, a local guitar-maker formed by former employees of the iconic Gibson Guitars factory in Kalamazoo, the Hilton property’s artwork features guitars and scenes from the factory.
Premium rooms feature the former Masonic temple’s large, round windows looking out over Rose Street below.
Local developer PlazaCorp, the city of Kalamazoo and Indiana-based hotel developer Dora Hotel Co. partnered on the restoration at the property.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed connecting with the community and hosting Kalamazoo visitors since we opened our doors in November,” said Dora Hotel Co. Principal Tim Dora in a statement. “We look forward to hosting many additional guests and events at our properties.”
Originally built as a Masonic temple, the property was later home to Kalamazoo’s Rose Street Market. The temple was built from 1913-15 by famed architectural firm Spier & Rohns, and the structure was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Downtown Kalamazoo’s newest hotel is also planning to be a spot on the community’s Beer Week tour and looks forward to being part of the city’s new social zone, director of sales and marketing Kara Kearns told MLive in the fall.
Between the two new hotels, the site will bring more than 50 jobs to Kalamazoo once fully operational, and is currently hiring in a variety of departments for both Home2 Suites and Hilton Garden Inn. Those interested in employment opportunities are encouraged to submit their applications or résumés to the front desk at the Hilton Garden Inn, Dora Hotel Co. Regional Manager Wendy Bland said.
