BROOKLYN, Ohio -- A 6-year-old boy died after being shot Saturday morning at Fairfield Inn and Suites, Brooklyn police say.
The boy has not yet been publicly identified in the shooting that happened about 7 a.m. at the hotel on Tiedeman Road just north of Brookpark Road, according to a statement from police.
Police have a person in custody, but say formal charges may not be filed until Monday.
Police went to the hotel on a report of shots being fired. A woman, later identified as the boy’s mother, called police front desk and said someone shot her and her son in their hotel room and left about 30 minutes before she called down for help, police said.
Officers got to the room and found the boy on the ground with several gunshot wounds. They performed CPR on the boy until paramedics with the Brooklyn Fire Department arrived and took the boy and his mom to MetroHealth for treatment.
Hospital staff pronounced the boy dead at the hospital. His mother was treated and released from the hospital.
Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
