PARKERSBURG — The Festival of Trees officially opened last Friday at the Blennerhassett Hotel with the official tree lighting. There are over 65 entries on display. The hotel is full of twinkling lights, and already has a steady flow of visitors.

“This is a huge undertaking to bring the event to life and it was a tremendous opportunity to take over this decades old tradition last year,” said Stacy DeCicco, executive director for United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

“We project that over the next two years, our Signature events will be positioned to raise an estimated 10 percent of our annual campaign — that is significant. Stop by and see what we have been able to do in our first “real year” of hosting the event. We want to see this event grow and expand… and increase in revenue.”

There are several events that wrap around the Festival of Trees:

* On Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Character Breakfast features holiday characters that your children will love. Children will receive a Christmas craft kit and a keepsake character photo.

* On Dec. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Trimmed takes talented decorator teams and gives them 90 minutes to decorate trees with mystery decorations. Tickets include hors d’oeuvres and draft beer.

* On Dec. 5 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Festival of Retail features a reserved lunch at DaVinci’s followed by shopping at eight local retail businesses. For a chance to win a gift basket featuring items from each business involved, get your passport stamped at each location and turn it in at the Blennerhassett Hotel by 5:30 p.m. to be entered in to the drawing. The shopper with the most festive Christmas outfit will win a $100 cash prize.

* On. Dec. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Festival of Trees Auction gives a chance to take a piece of Christmas home with you.
