While there hasn’t been an official announcement yet (as far as I can tell), it looks like Hilton Honors has extended select free night certificates yet again. We know this because Hilton Honors free night awards now display on Hilton’s website. Hilton really has been leading the way when it comes to extensions during the pandemic.
Hilton extends some free nights to July 2022
Several co-branded Hilton Honors Amex cards offer a free weekend night certificate, either as an annual benefit (like on the Hilton Aspire Card), or as an incentive for spending money on a card (like on the Hilton Surpass Card). There’s some great news, as the expiration of some of these certificates has been extended yet again.
In this case, the expiration of Hilton free night awards that were issued before May 1, 2020, has been extended through July 1, 2022. For context, prior to this they had been extended through January 3, 2022, and prior to that they had been extended through August 31, 2021.
Just to summarize the expiration dates of outstanding Hilton free night certificates:
- Hilton free night rewards issued before May 1, 2020, are valid through July 1, 2022
- Hilton free night rewards issued between May 1 and December 31, 2020, are valid for 24 months
- Hilton free night rewards issued between January 1 and December 31, 2021, are valid through December 31, 2022
While these are historically weekend free night awards, those issued at least through the end of 2021 can be used for stays any day of the week, and not just on weekends. That adds a huge amount of flexibility to these rewards.
I find these free night awards to be hugely valuable, and redeemed my last several at the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, and Conrad Bora Bora Nui. Also keep in mind that at the moment some cardmembers have been targeted with a promotion offering a free night certificate after spending $8,000, which is a great deal, in my opinion.
Bottom line
Hilton Honors has just extended the expiration date of some credit card free night awards issued in 2020, which were supposed to expire on January 3, 2022. These have now been extended through July 1, 2022. At least that’s what I’m seeing across accounts, so if anyone isn’t seeing that extension, please let me know.
In general Hilton Honors has done a fantastic job with extending benefits during the pandemic, and the free night awards are a great example of that. I’ve loved the flexibility of being able to redeem them for stays any night of the week, not to mention for just how long they’ve been valid.
