Hilton free night certificates are potentially worth $1,000 or more if you redeem them for a stay at upscale brands like Conrad or Waldorf Astoria, but even if you don't use them at a fancy resort, you could still get hundreds of dollars in value.
Here's how to find out if you've been targeted and what to do to take part in the free night promotion.
Hilton credit card free night certificate promotion
Check your inbox (and spam folder) for an email with the subject line "(your name), your Card Member perks summary is here" — it would have arrived in the past couple of days. Details about the promotion, including an activation link, are included in the email.
If you can't find the email, you can also check this link and enter your card details or Amex online login credentials to see if you're eligible.
Once you've activated the promotion, use your card to spend $8,000 or more in eligible purchases by February 28, 2022, and you'll earn a free night certificate.
I was targeted on my Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card but other Hilton cards appear to be eligible as well, including the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card and Hilton Honors American Express Card. Be sure to click the "Enroll" button to register for the promotion.
Once you've met the spending requirement, you should see your free night certificate in your Hilton account within 16 weeks. Spending made by the primary cardholder and any authorized users will qualify for the promotion, but there's a limit of one enrolled card per account.
One important note: The terms and conditions say that if you earn the free night certificate before December 31, 2021, it will be valid until December 31, 2022, and certificates earned after that are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. If you don't have immediate travel plans, it would make sense to delay completing the spending for this promotion as long as you can (but don't cut it too close to February 28).
Why are Hilton free night certificates so valuable?
The great thing about Hilton's free night certificates is you can use them for stays at almost any Hilton hotel, whether it's a family-friendly DoubleTree or ultra-luxurious Conrad resort. Normally, free night certificates earned with Hilton credit cards are only valid on the weekend (though that restriction has been temporarily lifted due to COVID).
The certificate you'll earn with this promotion is valid any night of the week. As long as a standard room is available at an eligible hotel, you should be able to redeem your certificate — unfortunately, premium room awards don't qualify.

If you have the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, you can stack a weekend night certificate with the card's $250 in annual Hilton resort credits if you redeem your reward at a qualifying Hilton resort. For example, you could redeem a certificate for a terrace view room at the Waldorf Astoria Grand Wailea and use your Aspire card to pay for on-resort expenses like dining, spa treatments, or activities to earn up to $250 in credits.
Keep in mind this promotion isn't the only way to earn Hilton free night certificates. Several Hilton cards offer the opportunity to earn them, either automatically or when you meet a spending threshold:
- Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card: Free night certificate when you open the card and on each card anniversary; plus, earn an additional certificate if you spend $60,000 or more on eligible purchases in a calendar year
- Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card: Earn a free weekend night certificate after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases in a calendar year
- The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card: Earn a free weekend night certificate after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases in a calendar year, and a second free weekend night certificate when you spend a total of $60,000 on eligible purchases in a calendar year
