Fresh off Pendry Chicago’s recent grand opening, the fast-growing brand Pendry Hotels & Resorts just announced plans to bring their winning mix of smart hospitality and contemporary luxury to Tampa. The newest Pendry will feature an almost equal number of guest rooms (220) and residences (207) and be situated in Tampa’s bustling Riverwalk district—a waterfront pedestrian friendly neighborhood that connects directly to downtown.
Pendry Tampa will be the first ultra-premium luxury hotel in this coastal Florida town, but likely not the last. Tampa is on the rise, explains Co-Founder & Creative Director of Pendry Hotels Michael Fuerstman, “Tampa is a very cool city. It reminds me a lot of San Diego. It’s a sunny feel-good coastal town with a young population, great medical care, great athletics and fantastic beaches.”
Alan J. Fuerstman, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Montage International (and Michael’s father) sees the oft overlooked Tampa as the perfect market for Pendry: “The ethos of the brand Pendry is New Luxury and the Tampa location is a solid fit as that city’s trajectory continues to rise. Tampa is a glove fit, it’s an evolving market and very dynamic. Luxury is heading there in the right way. It’s also exciting to exciting to do something in a city that’s never been done before.”
Taking advantage of this prime sunny Florida location, the hotel will feature floor-to-ceiling windows with expansive water views and modern, clean lines accented with wood and stone materials. “It will be a great piece of architecture with an almost sculptural feel balanced with lush tropical landscaping so everything feels truly fresh and elegant but also comfortable. We are being very intentional about striking the right note for this market,” explains Michael Fuerstman
This is Florida, so dining al fresco will be a team sport at Pendry Tampa, with three food-and-beverage concepts including a full-service restaurant, a lobby bar and a lounge. Guests and residents will have access to a full slate of five-star inspired resort amenities such as a rooftop swimming pool and lounge, Spa Pendry—complete with eight treatment rooms, a fitness center, more than 11,000 square feet of meeting space, and Pendry’s signature Pinwheel Kids’ Club program.
The service experience is one of Pendry and Montage’s defining elements, and for Alan Fuerstman, who got his start as a doorman for Marriott, it is essential to cultivate a company culture that values service and leadership. That In fact, it’s so important that both Michael and his father Alan attend all pre-opening training sessions with staff members. “It’s a huge commitment,” explains Alan, “we are actively involved in recruiting staff and talent, and we participate in onboarding team members. We are in the training classes and we are part of team building. We work to create a culture where our people take incredible pride in their job.
