MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI – A man was critically injured after being shot twice at a Muskegon Heights hotel Monday morning.

Police were “actively” searching the Clarion Inn and Suites, 150 S. Seaway Dr., for the shooter, Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph E. Thomas Jr. told MLive just after noon on Monday, June 15.

About an hour earlier, a woman called for help for the victim who had been shot twice, once in the head and once in the chest, with a small caliber firearm, Thomas said.

The woman had indicated the shooting followed an argument the victim had with another man in the hotel’s lobby, Thomas said. First responders were directed to a room on the hotel’s second floor where the victim was located.

Thomas said the victim suffered “life threatening” injuries.

He did not have additional information about the incident or the victim, including the victim’s hometown.

Muskegon Heights police have been working hard for several months to clean up blight and criminal activity from that portion of the city, Thomas said. The hotel is located at the corner of Seaway and Hoyt Street.

“We’ve been getting a lot of help from people who live in the area and the hotel manager,” Thomas said. “This (shooting) is very unusual compared to the last six months.”
