SWANTON, Vt. (AP) - Village officials in Swanton say they expect to have a former hotel razed next year to prepare the site for future development.
The three-story Riviere Hotel had served as a hotel since the 1800s before falling into disrepair. Swanton Village bought the building for about $30,000 earlier this year with the goal of eventually redeveloping the now dilapidated structure. Elisabeth Nance, Swanton’s economic development coordinator, told the St. Albans Messenger this week that village officials have decided the building isn’t worth saving for historic preservation.
Once cleared, village officials hope to sell the property to a developer.
