A portion of Duluth's Old City Hall will be turned into a downtown boutique hotel.
Rod Raymond is converting part of the building into a 13-room hotel that includes four hostel rooms and a "Scandinavian-designed" sauna, according to a news release from Raymond.
The hotel will be named in the coming weeks and is expected to open early this summer.
The building served as City Hall from 1888 to 1929 and is located at 132 East Superior Street. The building is home to three businesses: Wasabi restaurant, Evolve Duluth yoga studio and The Rathskeller, all of which will remain.
Raymond worked with Duluth's Arola Architects Studio to preserve the building's historic elements and come up with an interior design inspired by both the Roaring 20's and "bright" contemporary art.
"Whether you are here to visit a loved one at one of the newly-renovated hospitals or visiting Duluth with a kayak on the roof of your car, this new hotel is designed for you," Raymond said in the release.
The hotel's "council chamber suite" will feature a large fireplace, bar and view of Lake Superior while "the suite" will be able to accommodate six guests.
Raymond previously converted the Endion Station from a restaurant to a boutique hotel. Endion Station Inn, located in Canal Park, opened in 2019.
