DeWitt, N.Y. — A woman drowned Saturday night in a hotel pool, according to DeWitt police.

An employee at the Ramada by Wyndham East Syracuse Carrier Circle called 911 at 10:48 p.m. to report a person facedown in the hotel pool.

The employee didn’t have a key to get into the pool area, according to police dispatches.

DeWitt police, East Syracuse volunteer firefighters and East Area Volunteer Emergency Services (EAVES) ambulance crews responded to the hotel, at 6555 Old Collamer Road S. in the town of DeWitt.

EAVES paramedics broke a window to get into the pool area; the paramedics, along with East Syracuse firefighters then performed CPR on the woman, rescue crews said.

The resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the woman died, authorities said.

“There was a drowning,” DeWitt police Sgt. Michael Kurgan said Sunday. “It is under investigation.”

DeWitt police confirmed the drowning victim is a local woman, from Onondaga County. Kurgan declined to comment further as the investigation is continuing, but said more details are expected to be released Monday.
