First Florida Canopy by Hilton opens - Hotel Management

Canopy by Hilton announced the opening of Canopy by Hilton West Palm Beach Downtown, the first Florida location of Hilton’s lifestyle hotel brand. The 150-room, 13-story hotel operated by Palm Beach-based Driftwood Hospitality Management and owned by executives of Driftwood Hospitality and Coral Gables-based affiliate Driftwood Capital, is located in downtown West Palm Beach, two blocks from the Intracoastal Waterway to the east and the Palm Beach County Convention Center to the west.

“We are excited to bring this long anticipated new boutique experience to West Palm Beach, especially coming out of such a difficult time for the nation and community. We hope opening our new hotel now can provide a welcome reprieve for those looking to get out and enjoy a weekend staycation through the summer months at a pristine property,” said Carlos Rodriguez Jr., Driftwood Capital president and COO. “Ensuring the health and safety of both our guests and staff is our primary objective and we are proud of our management team and brand that are going above and beyond on protocols. As part of the safety measures, we have decided to offer a limited food-and-beverage experience, which will provide a taste of what’s to come when we eventually launch our marquee restaurant, Banter, and our incredible speakeasy in the sky, Treehouse, in the coming months.”

Locally Inspired Design

The design theme of Canopy’s first-floor lobby, reception area and its Banter restaurant and bar is rooted in the raw elements of nature juxtaposed with the urban context of downtown West Palm Beach and its history. The nature theme is carried further with a six-story “green wall” created against 165-year old barn wood seeded with earthy tones of green and brown maple. The use of real materials in their natural state whenever possible is part of the Canopy ethos and extends to the pillars and ceilings of the atrium, which feature exposed concrete with its natural patina.

Virtual Roundtable

Post COVID-19: The New Guest Experience

Join Hotel Management’s Elaine Simon for our latest roundtable—Post COVID-19: The New Guest Experience. The experts on the panel will share how to inspire guest confidence that hotels are safe and clean and how to win back guest business.

Food-and-Beverage

The Canopy has introduced extra layers of health and safety protocols in response to COVID-19 and will ensure enough distance between guests and staff while maintaining the luxury experience. To further limit social interaction, the Canopy’s first-floor restaurant and 13th-floor rooftop lounge and bar will postpone opening. In the meantime, the Canopy will provide a full coffee bar for guests with coffee from Oceana Coffee and an assortment of fresh pastries.

The hotel’s 13th story rooftop pool and deck offer views of the island of Palm Beach and the Atlantic Ocean to the east and city views over downtown West Palm Beach to the north and west. The pool is open to guests with social-distancing measures in place.

Canopy’s executive team includes GM Chris Steele, sales and marketing manager Jen Garrett, food and beverage manager Serge Saouma and executive chef Eduardo Ruberte.

Offerings

Amenities include “Just Right” rooms with Canopy-exclusive beds using memory foam and Serta Cool Balance Technology, free Canopy bikes and complimentary shuttle service throughout downtown for guests, as well as sustainability features such as water-filtration stations on each floor, eliminating the plastic water bottled typically found in hotel rooms. The hotel is also pet-friendly and supports local animal rescue operations through its “Paws in the Neighborhood” program.

With 7,000 square feet of event and meeting space, the hotel is designed with the flexibility to host everything from large corporate meetings and weddings to intimate wine dinners and social events. For the time being, events will be restricted until social-distancing measures are lifted.

The Neighborhood

Canopy’s central location positions it within walking distance to Palm Beach, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, the Norton Museum of Art and the shops and restaurants along Worth Avenue as well as the Clematis District, Rosemary Square and the Warehouse District just west of the convention center.

Hilton CleanStay

Canopy West Palm Beach Downtown will participate in Hilton CleanStay with Lysol protection, a rigorous system that incorporates partner RB’s know-how and scientific approach to cleaning practices and product offerings. Experts from the Mayo Clinic’s Infection Prevention and Control team will advise and assist in enhancing Hilton’s cleaning and disinfection protocols. The initiative will create a focus on cleanliness that will be visible to guests throughout their entire stay.
