AVON, Ohio -- Jordan Nye recently moved from Chicago to Avon after accepting the position of director of sales and marketing at the Kimpton Schofield Hotel in downtown Cleveland.

Nye moved to Avon Feb. 25 with his wife, Sarah, and their daughter.

Born in Warsaw, Indiana, Nye grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, then lived in Colorado beginning in 2001.

His first hotel job was as a banquet houseman while he was in college in 2005. From there, he moved up to the front desk of that hotel, into the sales office, then became group rooms coordinator in 2007 and convention services manager in 2009. He was then promoted to sales manager in 2011 at the hotel in Fort Collins, Colo.

“Then my company transferred me to Dallas in 2012 as sales manager and then promoted me to associate director of sales until 2016, when I moved back to Chicago,” Nye said.

On a fast track to hotel success, Nye moved to the Kimpton hotel chain. He accepted the offer of the Cleveland job last December.

With all of his exposure to hotels in other cities, Nye was asked what his impression of Cleveland was as he took on his new job.

“Everyone who lives in Cleveland tells me they love Cleveland. We are all Midwest people, and people in Cleveland are all so friendly, so it has been a wonderful experience,” he said.

He mentioned that he loves Cleveland’s architecture, and particularly mentioned the historic Cleveland Trust building at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 9th Street that was built between 1905 and 1908.

The building is known for its spectacular rotunda designed by architect George Post that features a Tiffany-style stained-glass ceiling. Closed for about 20 years, the building reopened as Cleveland’s first downtown supermarket in 2015.

The Schofield Building that houses the Kimpton, previously known as the Euclid Ninth Tower, is a 14-story building at the southwest corner of East 9th Street and Euclid Avenue, adjacent to the Rose Building and the City Club Building in the city’s Historic Gateway District.

Built in 1902 as an office building, the seven lower floors are now home to the Kimpton Schofield Hotel and the upper seven stories are apartments known as the Schofield Residences.

Nye and his wife were high school sweethearts. She was also in the hospitality industry, working for a convention and visitors bureau. After an absence of 14 years, the couple met again and married in 2018.

Nye said they are planning on making Northeast Ohio their permanent home.

“Yes, we intend to make Cleveland our home and raise our daughter here,” he said. “Cleveland is full of new experiences. We are excited to see all the city has to offer and we look forward to being part of the Cleveland community.”
